the Call of Duty

Jefferson J. DeBlanc is pictured above sharing the Medal of Honor he received in 1946.  He was the guest of honor for the Sacred Heart Eighth Grade Class in conjunction with their Medal of Honor Project.  Mr. DeBlanc is the last of Louisiana's Medal of Honor recipients from World War II.  He and Lucille, his wife of 54 years, have five children.  One of his children, Rev. Jefferson J. DeBlanc, Jr., was a former assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Church.


ABOVE AND BEYOND was the culmination of a 5-month research project by these eighth grade students.  At the conclusion of their research and report writing, a 40-page newspaper was produced locally by Bonnes Nouvelles for distribution locally.   With the permission of the publisher, the students and their parents, we are pleased to include the content from that newspaper in these pages.
