In 1876, for the 100th birthday of the United States, a special exposition was held in Philadelphia.   There a young scientist introduced a new device for transmitting messages.   These were the FIRST WORDS spoken over a telephone, and were uttered by a young inventor named Alexander Graham Bell over his new device, to his assistant in another room.  The second quote made over the telephone was Mr. Watson's surprised:  "IT TALKS!"
