Upon meeting Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of UNCLE TOM'S CABIN, President Lincoln stated:   "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that made this great war."     Within a year of publication in 1852 this great work of American literature sold 300,000 copies and had a major impact on the anti-slavery sentiment.
