VERY GOOD

LIKE FATHER/LIKE SON:  One of John Adam's sons died in New York just before the inauguration of Thomas Jefferson, giving Adams a plausable excuse to avoid attending the ceremony for his bitter rival.  The campaign between John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson was so bitter, the younger Adams didn't even look for an excuse.  He simply refused to attend the inauguration.   Years later Andrew Johnson refused to attend the inauguration of Ulysses S. Grant, whom he hated bitterly.
