Major Brady commanded an ambulance helicopter and rescued wounded men in enemy-held territory which was blanketed by fog. He descended through fog and smoke and hovered along a trail, turning his ship sideward to blow away the fog with the backwash of his blades. Despite enemy fire, he found the site, landed, and evacuated two wounded South Vietnamese soldiers. He was then called to another where American casualties lay 50 meters from the enemy. Two aircraft had previously been shot down and others had made unsuccessful attempts to reach this site but with skill and courage he made four flights to and rescued all the wounded. On his third mission of the day he landed at a site surrounded by the enemy where friendly forces had been unable to secure the landing zone. Although his aircraft was damaged and his controls partially shot away, he returned and rescued the remaining injured. Obtaining a replacement aircraft, he landed in a minefield, detonating a mine which wounded two crewmembers and further damaged his ship, but rescued the trapped American platoon. He then flew six severely injured patients to medical aid. Throughout that day Major Brady utilized three helicopters to evacuate a total of 51 seriously wounded men.

Pat Brady is one of TWO Vietnam War Medal of Honor recipients to also earn the Distinguished Service Cross. On the day that Webster Anderson was seriously wounded in the battle that earned him the Medal of Honor, Major Brady flew the evacuation helicopter that flew Webster Anderson out of the battlefield and to the hospital.
