Dear Congressman Howard L. Berman,
I David V. Gonzales, Jr. have recently been
informed by the Veterans community Center, Santa Ana University,
Riverside University and veteran organizations, that current published
magazines and books have been featuring the wrong picture and possibly
misleading information pertaining to my father, P.F.C. David M.
Gonzales. To my knowledge, the incorrect picture and data was
obtained from the department of the United States Army. It has
also come to my attention that an inaccurate photograph has been on
display in the United States Pentagon. I consider this situation
to be very critical, not only to myself, but to American history.
My father was extremely proud to serve this great country and deserves
to be remembered with honor and respect.
In addition to this letter a correct picture
and news article of P.F.C. David M. Gonzales, will be included. On
behalf of the entire Gonzales family and myself, we would deeply
appreciate it very much if you would further investigate the situation
and correct this error.
Thank you very much for your time and generous
effort to research this mistake and have it corrected as soon as
possible.
Sincerely,
David V. Gonzales, Jr.

| It is not unusual due to the number of
Medal Recipients, to occasionally discover mistakes in the official
records. A photo has sometimes appeared purportedly of World War
II hero David Gonzales, that is a case of mistaken identity.
The above photo was contributed through Greg Young on behalf of David
V. Gonzales, Jr. in an effort to correct this common error.
At right is a copy of a 1999 letter written by MOH Recipient David
Gonzales' surviving son, in additional efforts to correct the official
record. |
