During an engagement with Philippine insurrectionists at the Tuliahan (Tuliahan) River on March 25, 1899, two native Filipinos fell wounded 150 yards in front of the lines, where they were in danger from the exchange of fire. Army Surgeon and four soldiers braved the danger of fire from both sides to reach the two wounded men and carry them back to the safety of the American lines. |
