On June 30, 1898 three US Naval vessels encountered the Spanish gunboat Centinela near Manzanillo, Cuba. In the ensuing battle the gunboat was quickly over-powered and sunk. During this action Frederick Muller displayed extraordinary courage in the course of the battle and was cited for his bravery. |
