Captain Albert Mills was a commander in the U.S. Volunteers in the attack on San Juan and Kettle Hills outside Santiago, Cuba. In the heat of the charge to storm the heavily defended Spanish blockhouses on the hill, Captain Mills was shot in the head and blinded. Without sight, he remained on the battlefield to shout orders and encouragement to his attacking soldiers. His valor, despite his severe wounds, were an inspiration to all and resulted in the award of the Medal of Honor.
Albert Mills graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1879.
