First Lieutenant Wilber Wilder and Wagoneer John Schnitzer both earned the Medal of Honor in action against a hostile Indian force at Horseshoe Canyon, New Mexico, on April 23, 1882. Both men, though subjected to a heavy fire from the enemy force, risked their lives to rescue a wounded comrade.
Wilbur Wilder graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1877.
