Private John Vanderslice was one of seven soldiers who was awarded the Medal of Honor for personal bravery in action against Confederate forces at Hatcher's Run, Virginia, on February 6, 1865. During a charge on the enemy's rifle pits, Private Vanderslice was the first man to reach the enemy position, which was subsequently overrun by the Union forces. |
