Major General David Sloan Stanley was one of ten men who earned the Medal of Honor in action against a Confederate force at Franklin, Tennessee, on November 30, 1864. At a critical moment in the heated battle, General Stanley rode to the front of one of his brigades, reestablished its lines, and gallantly led it In a successful assault. His was one of only two (of ten) Medals awarded for actions other than the capture of Confederate flags in this battle. |
