In action at Evergreen, Alabama, on March 23, 1865, Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Spurling advanced alone in the darkness beyond the picket line. He came upon three of the enemy and fired upon them prompting the enemy to return fire. In the brief battle that followed Lieutenant Colonel Spurling wounded two of the enemy soldiers and captured the whole party. |
