Colonel Thomas Seaver was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic leadership at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia, on May 10, 1864. Two days before the major battle there on May 12 that earned Medals of Honor for thirty-six men, Colonel Seaver, at the head of three regiments and under a heavy fire from the entrenched Confederate forces, attacked and occupied the enemy's works. |
