Captain James O'Beirne was one of nine men who was awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism during a two-day engagement with Confederate forces at Fair Oaks, Virginia, on May 31 and June 1, 1862. Captain O'Beirne gallantly maintained the line of battle beneath a withering hail of enemy fire until ordered back. |
