Seven soldiers were awarded Medals of Honor for their heroism in action against rebel forces at Williamsburg, Virginia, on May 5, 1862. Captain George Mindil, serving as aide-de-camp, led the charge with part of his regiment. Under his leadership the Union soldiers pierced the enemy's center and silenced some of their artillery. Moving his men to the rear of the Confederate forces, Captain Mindil forced the rebels to abandon their position. |
