Private Benjamin Levy was a young drummer boy when Union forces engaged elements of the Confederate army at Glendale, Virginia, on June 30, 1862. Taking up the gun of a sick comrade, Private Levy went into the fight with the other soldiers of his unit, and when the color bearers were shot down under a hail of enemy fire, he rushed forward and took them up himself, thereby preventing them from falling into the enemy's hands. |
