General Hatch was one of four soldiers who earned the Medal of Honor for heroic actions at South Mountain, Maryland, on September 14, 1862. Though he was severely wounded while leading one of his brigades against the Confederate forces, he braved the heavy fire to continue to inspire and direct his men. |
