First Lieutenant Thomas Gere was one of fifteen men who earned the Medal of Honor in action at Nashville, Tennessee on December 16, 1864. In an engagement with Confederate troops First Lieutenant Gere was cited for his capture of the flag of the 4th Mississippi Infantry, (Confederate States of America).
