Captain Henry DuPont was one of twenty soldiers who was awarded the Medal of Honor for personal valor in action against Confederate forces at Cedar Creek, Virginia, on October 19, 1865. Captain DuPont voluntarily exposed himself to the enemy's fire at a critical moment in the battle during which the Union line had been broken. His courageous actions inspired his men to remain at their guns, thereby halting the advance of the enemy and enabling them to bring most of their artillery off the battlefield. |
Graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point, Class of May, 1861. From 1906 to 1917 Henry DuPont served as a US Senator from Delaware. |
