Seven soldiers were awarded Medals of Honor for their heroism in action against rebel forces at Williamsburg, Virginia, on May 5, 1862. When the enemy charged Private Michael Dillon's battery, he displayed great valor in repulsing that charge. The following month at Oak Grove, Virginia, on June 25 Private Dillon again distinguished himself. In that action he courageously crawled outside friendly lines to obtain important information for his commanders. For these two acts of heroism he was awarded the Medal of Honor. |
