Private Joseph Chambers was one of four soldiers who earned the Medal of Honor in action at Petersburg, Virginia, on March 25, 1865. One of three men cited for capturing a flag of the opposing Confederate Army, Private Chambers valiant actions resulted in his capture of the colors of the 1st Virginia Infantry. In all, a total of 64 Medals of Honor were earned in action at Petersburg, Virginia, in the period from March 25 to April 3, 1865. |
