On the day after ten soldiers earned Medals of Honor in the savage battle at Fredericksburg, Virginia, First Lieutenant Franklin Butterfield became one of three soldiers to earn Medals of Honor at Fredericksburg on May 4, 1863. Lieutenant Butterfield took command of the skirmish line and covered the movement of his regiment out of a precarious position. |
