On September 1, 1864, Brigadier General Absalom Baird voluntarily led a detached brigade in an assault on the enemy's fortifications at Jonesboro, Georgia, earning the Medal of Honor for his valiant leadership and example. His was one of four Medals of Honor awarded in this battle. Graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1849 |
