42 Medals of Honor are Accredited to Kentucky

  • During the Civil War 3 Medals of Honor were awarded for action "on the ground" in Kentucky.

  • Kentucky's Dr. Mary Edwards Walker is the ONLY WOMAN in history to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

  • Kentucky-born Civil War drummer WILLIAM HORSFALL was only 14 years old when he earned the Medal of Honor at Corinth for saving the life of a wounded officer.
