• During the Civil War 87 Medals of Honor were awarded for action "on the ground" in the State of Georgia.

• During Joe Jackson's Medal of Honor action in Vietnam, a pilot overhead photographed his heroic aerial rescue of a badly surrounded group of soldiers...the only known photograph in history of a Medal of Honor action.

• Joe Jackson's small home town of Newnan produced an incredible TWO Vietnam War Medal of Honor heroes.   Less than a year before Jackson's heroic rescue, STEPHEN PLESS received the Medal of Honor...for the aerial rescue of ground troops under enemy fire.
