11 Medals of Honor are Accredited to Arkansas

  • In 1943 former Arkansas Razorback and Detroit Lion football player Maurice "Footsie" Britt became the first person in American military history to earn ALL FOUR of the Army's top awards in a single war.  His MOH was presented on the football field where he played.  Footsie went on to become Lt. Governor of Arkansas, and passed away in 1995.

  • During the Civil War 11 Medals of Honor were awarded for action "on the ground" in Arkansas.
