Presented
by the President in the Name of the Congress, it is the highest honor that can be bestowed
upon any American. The men who wear it call themselves "recipients" (not
winners), for what they received it for was not a contest...it was a time of terror
and death where their valor was tested, then recognized by a grateful Nation. All of
them feel that they didn't win The Medal...they RECEIVED it.
Frequently called "The Congressional Medal of Honor", its true title is simply:
MEDAL OF HONOR |
 |
Established
early in the Civil War to "promote efficiency in the Navy", the Medal of Honor
rose to prominence in American history and heritage. Only slightly
more than 3,500 Americans have
been awarded Medals of Honor, and today only 78 of them survive. These heroes are
a vanishing breed whose valiant history MUST be preserved for future generations.
That heritage is nurtured and sustained on the ground floor of the Hall of Heroes.
The WALL OF HONOR is the single largest planned exhibit for both the actual
Hall of Heroes Museum and the "on-line version". We have prepared
an introductory page to explain the Wall of Honor and what it will contain. The Wall
of Honor will contain the complete HONOR ROLL of American Medal of Honor heroes.
Click on the button below to preview this display that will be the heart and soul of the
Hall of Heroes.

In
our data-base, we can provide visitors to the virtual Hall of Heroes with the same
inspirational history that visitors to the actual museum will some day see first
hand. In addition, you will be able to visit this site to view the names of all
Medal of Honor recipients:
- Arranged Alphabetically by War,
- Grouped by the State to which their medal was accredited,
- Grouped by their Branch of Service, and/or
- Listed by where they are buried.
This section of the Hall of Heroes also maintains information on the living
Medal of Honor recipients as we struggle to preserve the heritage of our most
"endangered species". Please be patient with us as we build, and check
back often. The following displays in this exhibit are open NOW. Click on the
icon for any you wish to visit. If you get lost along the way, remember you can
ALWAYS click on the compass to access our hyperlinked site map.
