Rank and Organization: Corporal, Company E, 1st Michigan Sharpshooters. Place and dare: At Petersburg, Va., 30 July 1864. Entered Service At: Goodland, Mich. Born: 1846, Reading, Mich. Date of Issue: 31 July 1896.

Citation:

Instead of retreating, remained in the captured works, regardless of his personal safety and exposed to the firing, which he boldly and deliberately returned until the enemy was close upon him.
