Rank and Organization: Sergeant, Company E, 26th Michigan Infantry. Place and Date: At Spotsylvania Courthouse, Va., 12 May 1864. Entered Service At: Hamburg, Mich. Born: 1842, Noble County, Ind. Date of Issue: 13 May 1899.

Citation:

Was one of the first to mount the Confederate works, where he bayoneted two of the enemy and captured a Confederate flag, but threw it away to continue the pursuit of the enemy.
