Rank and Organization: Private, Company H, 62d New York Infantry. Place and Date: At Wilderness, Va., 5 May 1864. Entered Service At: New York, N.Y. Birth: New York, N.Y. Date of Issue: 25 February 1895.

Citation:

Went out in front of the line under a fierce fire and, in the face of the rapidly advancing enemy, rescued the regimental flag with which the color bearer had fallen.
