My Message
To America
At a very early age I was imbued with the spirit of Americanism and in particular the three basic principles of our American way of life - the Holy Bible, the Flag and our free enterprise system. All through-the years I was reminded that we must constantly be aware of and reaffirm our convictions of morality as defined in the Holy Bible. I was reminded that we must constantly be aware of and reaffirm our convictions of government as defined in our sacred Constitution of the United States. I was reminded that we must be constantly aware of and reaffirm our convictions in the rights of free men to work in callings and locality of their choice. I earnestly believe this.
When I was about six or seven years old, I can vividly recall my Mother telling us that the American flag must never touch the ground, nor must it ever be defaced in any way. In fact, from those days until the "violence of the 60s" I was always under the impression that it was a federal offense with a $10,000 fine and ten years in prison for desecrating the American flag. But, like so many other sacred American traditions and beliefs, that too, unfortunately had disappeared from our American scene.
It has always been a great inspiration to recall our cherished heritage. I will never cease to be thrilled with the stories of our great Americans - our Founding Fathers. George Washington, the father of our country who set the example for future generations and gave Americans the inspiration to make the United States of America the greatest nation on earth. I admired and worshipped all those gallant leaders who laid the foundation for our glorious nation - the fifty-six Signers of the Declaration of Independence: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two of the architects of the Declaration; Francis Marion, "The Swamp Fox", Nathaniel Greene and Ethan Allen and his "Green Mountain Boys"; John Paul Jones, who captured more than 300 British ships; Nathan Hale, the 21 year old school teacher who volunteered his services to George Washington to go behind the enemy lines and when captured he was hanged with these words on his lips, "I only regret I have but one life to give for my country." And Patrick Henry and his immortal address of "Give me liberty or give me death."
Our young nation was born in battle and our glorious history is the envy of peoples everywhere. We are akin by blood and descent to most of the nations of Europe. In the early days of our country many foreigners offered their assistance to us. Marquis De Lafayette, born in France, volunteered his services to help American colonies in their struggle for independence. Major General Baron Von Steuben, born in Germany, helped train George Washington's army at Valley Forge. Count Casimir Pulaski, born in Poland, volunteered to fight for America during the Revolutionary War and died fighting for that cause. Major General Baron Johann De Kalb, born in Bavaria, distinguished himself in battle for America's cause and also paid the supreme sacrifice.
It is with great pride to read about the 'Great Emancipator,' Abraham Lincoln, who led our nation through an historic crisis when brother fought brother on our land during the Civil War. It is with great pride to know that our great nation saved the world in World War I, 1917-1918. It is with great pride to know that our great nation again saved the free world from dastardly Nazism in World War II, 1941- 1945. From that time forward Americans have fought and died to save the free world from its greatest menace and enemy - atheistic Communism, in Korea, Vietnam and elsewhere.
I am proud to be a citizen of a nation whose objective is peace and goodwill for all mankind. A nation which has contributed so much for the benefit of peoples all over the world. A nation, under God with liberty and justice for all. I am proud to be an American. I can never believe it is old fashioned to love your Flag and Country nor can I ever believe it is being square to stand in readiness behind our flag to defend those ideals for which it stands against all enemies, foreign or domestic.
In the fourth century B.C., Aristotle, the Greek philosopher said, 'All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends upon the education of youth. It is on the sound education of the people that the security and destiny of every nation chiefly rests.'
In this connection, our American youth are the future leaders of a free America and it is imperative that they be educated in the history of our great country and to understand our Constitution. Patriotism, loyalty and fair play is part of our inheritance. It has always been the policy of atheistic Communism in its quest for world domination to try to capture the minds and hearts of the youth in the countries it seeks to subjugate. It is the responsibility of all Americans, young and old, to abide by the laws of our land with unwavering devotion and dedication to our Flag and Constitution. We witnessed the world-wide Communist stratagem in the 1960s in the agitating and mobilization of college students for demonstrations and violence against our 'government and it's Armed Forces.
If we are to survive, the spirit of '76 must be rekindled in the hearts and minds of the youth of America. No nation had a better example than that set by our Founding Fathers who gave their all to preserve our freedom. This was epitomized in the words written by Thomas Jefferson in the last sentence of the Declaration of Independence where he wrote, "And for the support of the Declaration with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor." It is the moral obligation of every American to always give his wholehearted and undivided loyalty to our flag.
It is the moral obligation of every American to encourage our youth to hold high the torch of freedom and justice. We must not only live our lives according to the principle that freedom under God is man's destiny, but it is every American's obligation to defend that freedom unto death with the courage of free men. This is every American's responsibility - man, woman, and child.
