To All Who Shall See These Presents Greeting: This is to Certify that The President of the United States of America Takes Pleasure in Presenting THE  DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDAL to CLARKE, HENRY N. Citation: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Henry N. Clarke, Private, U.S. Army, for distinguished service in a fire in the troop stables at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on 12 August 1892, while serving as a member of Troop D, 3d Cavalry Regiment. D.S.M. issued in lieu of the Certificate of Merit under the provisions of the act of Congress July 9, 1918) Born: at East Indies DONLEY, ELWOOD Citation: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Elwood Donley, Blacksmith, U.S. Army, for distinguished service as a member of Troop D, 3d Cavalry Regiment, during a fire at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on 12 August 1892. Blacksmith Donley made very possible exertion at the risk of his life, in the highest place on the roof of the burning troop stables for more than an hour, and thus greatly assisted in saving the building from destruction. D.S.M. issued in lieu of the Certificate of Merit under the provisions of the act of Congress July 9, 1918) Born: at Windham, Vermont Home Town: Athol, Massachusetts DONNELLY, JAMES Citation: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to James Donnelly, Private, U.S. Army, for distinguished service at the fire at Fort Clark, Texas, on 31 March 1892, while serving as a member of Company G, 18th Infantry Regiment. D.S.M. issued in lieu of the Certificate of Merit under the provisions of the act of Congress July 9, 1918) Born: at Ireland Home Town: Cincinnati, Ohio KAINE, PATRICK Citation: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Patrick Kaine, First Sergeant, U.S. Army, for saving a comrade from drowning at the risk of his own life at Leech Lake, Minnesota, on 16 June 1893, while serving as a member of Company D, 3d Infantry Regiment. D.S.M. issued in lieu of the Certificate of Merit under the provisions of the act of Congress July 9, 1918) Born: at Ireland LONG, JOHN Citation: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to John Long, Artificer, U.S. Army, for service rendered during fire at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on 12 August 1892, while serving as a member of Battery F, 3d Artillery Regiment. D.S.M. issued in lieu of the Certificate of Merit under the provisions of the act of Congress July 9, 1918) Born: at Baltimore, Maryland Home Town: Baltimore, Maryland SCHWARZ, ADOLPHUS A. Citation: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Adolphus A. Schwarz, Private, U.S. Army, for excellent conduct and heroic service while serving as a member of Troop K, 3d Cavalry Regiment, during the burning of a troop barracks at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, on 22 April 1896. Volkmar, Sergeant, U.S. Army, for distinguished services while serving as a member of the Signal Corps, in subduing a fire which threatened to destroy public property, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on 15 March 1898.
