| Influenza Epidemic (1918) 7 Navy Crosses
More than 675,000 Americans died from the Influenza Epidemic of 1918 including 43,000 American soldiers. Three U.S. Navy nurses and one corpsman charged with caring for victims of the epidemic at Naval Hospitals at Hampton Roads, VA and Philadelphia, PA received Navy Crosses for their courage in caring for the highly-contagious servicemen. All four died as a result of their service. |
