Sergeant Major John Young (by date of action) became the first DOUBLE DSC recipient, earning two before World War I began.
Second Lieutenant Frank Bolles earned a DSC in the Philippine Insurrection, and a second DSC in WWI.
Major James F. Bell (MOH-Philippines) became the first Medal of Honor recipient to also earn a DSC (Spanish-American War).
Corporal Arthur Ferguson and Second Lieutenant Gordon Johnston each earned BOTH a Medal of Honor and a Distinguished Service Cross during the Philippine Insurrection.
TWO of the 132 Pre-WWI Distinguished Service Crosses were presented posthumously.
