Young, Sergeant Major, U.S. Army, for rescuing a comrade from drowning in Minnesota River, near Fort Snelling, Minnesota, November 19, 1896. "  D.S.C. issued in lieu of the certificate of merit and the D.S.M. under the provisions of the act of Congress approved March 5, 1931.  Home Town: Detroit, MI  Other Award: Distinguished Service Cross w/OLC (Spanish-American War) Interim 1899 - 11910   BROADUS, LEWIS First Sergeant, U.S. Army Company M, 25th Infantry Date of Action: July 3, 1906 Citation: The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Lewis Broadus, First Sergeant, U.S. Army, for coolness, presence of mind, and bravery in saving lives of others at Fort Niobrara, Nebraska, on July 3, 1906.
