Abbott, Corporal, U.S. Army, for distinguished gallantry in action at Tientsin, China, July 13, 1900 D.S.C. issued in lieu of the certificate of merit and the D.S.M. under the provisions of the act of Congress approved March 5, 1931. Home Town: Worcester, MA CORNING, JOHN A. Private, U.S. Army Troop L, 6th Cavalry Date of Action: September 4, 1900 Citation: The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to John A. Corning, Private, U.S. Army, for gallant service in an engagement with Chinese troops at Chang Ping Chow, China, September 4, 1900. D.S.C. issued in lieu of the certificate of merit and the D.S.M. under the provisions of the act of Congress approved March 5, 1931. Lieutenant Frazier displayed conspicuous gallantry and absolute disregard of personal safety in rescuing, under a terrific enemy fire, the colonel of his regiment, who had fallen mortally wounded. Waldron, Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action at Tientsin, China, July 13, 1900, in rescuing while under a heavy fire three of his men from drowning, all of whom fully accoutered had fallen into a deep ditch, when Lieutenant Waldron also fully accoutered, jumped in and saved them.
