National Defense Service Medal

(All Services)

For active federal service in the armed forces, including the Coast Guard, between:

27 Jun 1950 to Jul 1954 (Korea)
1 Jan 1961 to 14 Aug 1974 (Vietnam)
2 Aug 1990 to 30 Nov 1995 (Persian Gulf)
11 Sep 2001 to date to be determined (War on Terror)..

Also awarded to members of the National Guard and Reserve who were part of the Selected Reserve in good standing during the period from 2 Aug 1990 to a date to be determined.

Authorized on april 22, 1953 the National Defense Service Medal indicates military service during a time of war or conflict regardless of the serviceman's station of duty.
