RESOLUTION BY THE COLORADO STATE BOARD OF VETERANS AFFAIRS
RE: The Stolen Valor Act of 2005
Whereas the United States Congress finds that fraudulent claims surrounding receipt of the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished-Service Cross, the Air Force Cross, the Navy Cross, the Purple Heart, or any other medal or decoration awarded by Congress or the armed forces damage the reputation and meaning of these medals; and
Whereas Congress finds that Federal law enforcement officers are currently limited in their ability to prosecute fraudulent claims of receipt of military medals; and
Whereas changes to the current statute are necessary to allow law enforcement personnel to protect the reputation and meaning of these medals, and
Whereas Colorado Congressman John T. Salazar introduced in the current session HR 3352, called the Stolen Valor Act of 2005, with the intent of amending Title 18 (U.S.C.) for the purposes of protecting the integrity of military awards:
The Colorado Board of Veterans Affairs hereby:
- Endorses and supports the Stolen Valor Act of 2005,
- Offers its sincere appreciation to Colorado Congressman John T. Salazar for his cognizance of this important problem,
- Urges the members of the Colorado Congressional Delegation to support this bill and the efforts of Congressman Salazar to see it successfully enacted into law.
