Welcome
Hi there, my
name is Douglas and I will be your tour guide on the first floor. Yes, I am a real person.
I'm 12 years old and live in Pueblo, Colorado. My mom and dad are the people behind the
"Hall Of Heroes" project. Many of the living heroes you will meet here are
personal friends of mine. From time to time I'll share my photo album of them with you. If
you really want to know more about me you can click on the TOUR GUIDE icon at the bottom
of this page to visit my profile site. I have been lucky enough to meet a lot of
interesting people and I will share some of my pictures with you there. |
Birth of A Nation |
As you join
me at the middle of the museum you can't help but notice the large centerpiece with the
flags and model of Washington, D.C. That will be our first stop. To the left is a display
to a special friend of mine named Carl Sitter. Mr. Sitter served in the Marines during
World War II and Korea and received the Medal of Honor. You will get to meet Mr. Sitter
along with some other heroes from my hometown a little later on.
The shiny walls in the background have the names of more than 3,400 heroes.
We call it our "Wall of Honor". These are the names of all the men and one woman
who received our Nation's greatest award, the Medal of Honor. Upstairs you can see one of
our "American History Rooms". Maybe you can see the statues of four of our
presidents from here. You'll get a closer look later when you visit the second floor.
I know its kind of hard not to notice all those pretty flags in back and we
will learn about them a little further along in our tour. Also you'll notice the large
model of our Capitol City. Washington, D.C. does not belong to any state or any
person, it belongs to EVERY American. It is kind of like our Country's home. YOUR
HOME! I'll also be telling you all about it a little further along.

There are actually 3 individual displays in this exhibit:
 |
OUR FOUNDING DOCUMENTS
These important papers are our Nation's
"Birth Certificates" and include the Declaration of Independence, the
Constitution, The Bill of Rights, and other important papers. |
 |
OUR FLAG
Here you will learn the history of our
Flag, how it was born, and how it developed over the centuries. You can also learn
how to show respect for it and how to properly display it. |
 |
OUR CAPITOL CITY
Here you can learn all about Washington,
D.C., our Nation's Capitol. Your visit to this display will teach you how the city
was chosen, built, and give you an on-line tour. |
The best way to tour the Hall of Heroes is to take the tours in order...if
you have the time. You can do this by just clicking on the arrow
at the bottom of each page. If you want to skip an exhibit, just click on its button
and I'll meet you there to tell you all about it. Any time you want to go to a
different exhibit, display, or floor, you can click on the compass. It will bring up
our hyperlinked map to all available sites. |
 |
Any time you see my image on a button like the one at the
left, that means there is a "hidden" page in the basement...we call it the
ARCHIVES...that has some additional information if you REALLY want to do some further
study. Some items in the archives are kind of dry...others are really fun and
interesting. It's up to you if you want to visit the Archives when you see this
button. Right now if you click on it you will find a
special page that will tell you about ME.
You can either go there or get on with the tour. |
If you don't want to visit the archives, click on the arrow to
begin the tour at our first exhibit, or click on the compass to bring up a map of all the
displays and exhibits. |
