Teamwork
Do you ever feel like the lone ranger, out there trying to
tame the old west all by yourself? Many times in life we think, and justifiably so, we are
isolated in our pursuit of success with out a team to support us.
When speaking about persistence I discuss the ingredient of
the team to survive whether its on the battlefield, football field, business field
or at home. Many people assume that because I received the Medal of Honor it was a
singular act by one person. That is far from the truth.
In the battle for which I received the award I had an
entire team trying to save my life: E Company Recon, 2/8 First Calvary Division. In
addition, thank God, we had artillery support from surrounding fire support bases, Air
Force Spookie gunships, cobra helicopters, medivac choppers, medic staff and later the 11th
Armored Cav who came crashing through the woods. Now that was teamwork. If you ever wanted
to see a jungle lit up in the middle of the night picture those units working in unison to
accomplish a common goal: to save our
you know what I mean.
Then and there I learned there are no lone rangers. If you
dont have a team, recognize that your team exists and use it, you wont survive
or be successful. Although you may participate individually, it is your team that supports
you in the desired outcome.
Who exactly is your team? I suggest you take a few minutes
right now, take out paper and pen, and identify who they are. Write their names down.
Start with your spouse, kids, coworkers, friends, those you attend school and church with,
etc.
Start today. Recognize, establish, and use your positive
support team who will assist you in meeting your goals both personally and professionally.
"Teamwork is the primary ingredient of success."
