"G.I. Bob" began his "military service" in 1941 performing for troops at March Field, California; and in 1943 he began his first "combat tour" traveling to entertain troops in England, Africa, Sicily and Iceland. In 1976, for his World War II service to British Troops, by order of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Bob Hope was made an Honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire. |
