My mother told me that my deceased Uncle Elwin Chivers, while on a ship (as a merchant seaman or civilian, I think) dove off and rescued a seaman from the water. I was unsuccessful in locating documentation. He probably shipped out of Seattle and I believe the incident may have occured in Alaska, but am uncertain. I am thoroughly impressed by the spirit and intent of your site, and am grateful for what you are extending to Americans, and the opportunity to learn of nobility not by social station, favor, or status but the ability to sacrificially serve almost beyond belief and diametrically opposed to the decomposition of our values which these have fought for shown around us. Thank-you very much

I hope I will get to visit the museum one day. I recently spoke on the phone, and wrote MOH recipient Gary Wetzel(Vietnam), as I saw him on a video about the MOH, and just wanted to tell him thanks for his service. Your site is helping to do what all Amer cans should do, and that is to thank, and honor these great patriots. Well done guys!

You site is an inspiration to all and to me especially. I am in school to be a naval officer and hope to some day fly jets. In this day in age I feel as though I am one of a few people who take pride in knowing that they will some day serve their countr . It seems to me that many kids today do not appreciate the idea of freedom. In a class I had, the teacher asked how many people would give their life for their country, and I was the only to raise my hand. When I came to this site it gave me that ting ing feeling like I get when I hear the national anthem. It is only my wish that more kids felt that way if they saw this site. When I read the stories of the men and women who loved and sacrificed so much for their country, it makes me so proud to say t at I will some day serve for my country and their memory. I commend you for this site and I wish to some day see the actual hall of heros.

I wonder if you could help me. Is it true that former President Ferdinand Marcos war medals were all fakes? First of all Thank You and God Bless each of you. Everyone who has ever served is truly a hero and each of you listed here are greatly appreciated as you represent the finest this Great Nation has to offer. I as a Veteran myself know what dedication and sacrifice it takes to keep this Nation free. I have a personal interest in one particular recipient (Sammy L. Davis) On Nov. 19,1991 my ex-wife and I lost our thirteen month old son Jeremy. Sammy was and is a friend to the family. Upon the passing of our son my Mother-in-law contacted Sammy and informed him of the tragedy. Sammy was so moved by our loss that he disregarded his own personal needs and proceeded to us in our time of need and grief. I still treasure the photos I have of Sammy holding Jeremy. And I somehow believe that Sammy still carries his copies. I make every attempt to see Sammy each year at the Veteran's g thering in Kokomo, Indiana. Each year I greet Sammy with a handshake that ends up being more of a hug with respect for each other. Sammy, I can only pray that someday you will view this because I never got the chance to THANK YOU for being there for Colle n, Donna, Curt, and I when we needed you. God Bless you Sammy and Thank You once again. Kevin.

This is a very interesting site. Many years ago I wore a POW braclet awaiting for the return home of Captain James B. Stockdale. I've thought about him so many times, wondering how he was and wanting to thank him for what he did for all of us and our coun ry.I never knew where or how to get in touch with him until my son got a computer, and my young daughter started asking me questions about vietnam and my POW.I know the internet has a world of information on it so this is where I started the search for my invisible hero. I was and am still very proud that by wearing this braclet unbeknowns to Com. James B. Stockdale he and all the men and women who served in Vietnam were always in my heart and my prayers. This extremely brave man who I didn't even know was a big part of my life for longer than I've known my own children and all I ever knew about him was that he was a human being who needed my prayers and hope to come home. When I started my search today I found out that he was a Medal of Honor Recipient and the reasons why. How proud I am to be a part of this great country and have been an unknown part of the life of Rear Admiral James B. Stockdale. Thank you so much for being the honorable, wonderful person you are. Thank you for making our world a better p ace for us and our children. Thank you for all of your personal sacrifice. God Bless you and you will always remain in my heart.

I once read the words Duty, Honor, Country in a book written about MSgt(Ret) Roy P. Benavidez, CMH. I think about those words each time I open this web site to research the Medal and read the heroric acts that occured and sacrifices made. The recipients of the Medal I have met, have inspired me to continue to do the best I can as I serve my country and wear the same uniform they wore. I want to also pay a special thanks to the man who brought this web page from a dream, to a reality. Over 50,000 hits h ve been recorded on this web site. This man has given his time, efforts, monies, heart and soul to make this the best web sites on the internet today. I salute you, Doug Sterner, for what you have done to bring old friends together, heal hearts of pain nd dispair, and paved the way for a dying part of our history to continue to be alive, honored, and remembered. Many men have gone before after stepping up to the plate of Duty, Honor, Country. Some did not return. It is now our time, as the future ge eration of this country, to step up to the plate and take the bat of freedom so their deeds and sacrifices will not have been done in vain.

I have written to and heard from about 150 or so Medal of Honor winners. At Iwo Jima, I met gt. John Basilone; and our ship took in three Marines who went on to earn the Medal at Iwo Jima. A country full of young people searching for role models or heroes need to be exposed to the few men and the deeds they performed for their fellow man which is not unlike what Jesus Christ did for all people. Duty, Honor, Country. These words and all the edal of Honor recipients for doing what they did in perilous times in their lives, in the name of freedom are always in my mind. Kids gape at sports "heroes" !? None of them come within one iota of the CMOH recipients.

On November 10, 1995, re: The Star-Ledger newspaper,Newark, NJ, headlines: "FBI Viet Vet Tarnished Medal of Honor" - Pictured Medal of Honor recipient, Paul Bucha, President of the MHS holding his award received in 1970. Reading this was a blast from the past for me, since Paul (Buddy) Bucha and I were friends, attending the same high school in the late 1950's, i.e.,Camp Zama, Japan. It was a pleasure and joy to see the face of this hero in my local morning news. "Buddy" was a leader and a gentle person in those teen years of fun and freedom in the Land of the Rising Sun. I applaud his further dedication to high values and valor on behalf of this brothers and our country. A reunion with him would be a blessing after so many years on the journey of life Fond memories of Buddy, his sister, Maryanne, Priscilla, and so many others linger in heart and mind. May sunshine continue to light his life and work! Sincerely, Rosanne

I was doing some research to do an article for a small town English/Spanish newspaper as a follow-up to the newest Medal of Honor winner, Mr. Rascon. I was trying to find out exactly how many Latinos/Hispanics have received the MOH. I'm still searching. Can someone help me find this information? My dad was a WWII vet, wounded in battle and deaf for the rest of his life from the war; he died recently. In his last days he spent a lot of time reminiscing about those days. At his funeral the local MAVA (M xican-American Veteran's Association) paid him a wonderful tribute and served as color guard. I'm sitting here with my eyes welling-up, thinking about it. I want to write this article about the Medal winners to keep the fires of pride of service to our ountry alive and burning brightly and to pay tribute to my father.

Mr.Currey a WW2 moh winner used to live down the road from me in So. Bethlehm N.y.The street he lived on is named after him.He is friends with my grandfather Cosmo Dipierrio. They have known each other years and my grandfather never knew what he did to win the MOH.He always said that he did not do anything that any other soldier would have done. Now I can tell my grandfather what Mr. Currey did.Thank you for honoring these great people.01/21/00 15:56:11

This is the best Honor site I have ever set eyes on. Not only does it inform us of forgotten heros but lets us remember our family members. A family member of mine recieved the MOH during the Civil War...James Marvin Young. This is the ONLY site that a tually lists him in the rolls. My hat's off to you. Keep up the outstanding work and I only see it getting better in the future. William A. Mills Fredonia NY01/18/00 16:52:13

It was purely a wild guess to stop by. I'm thrilled that I did. I was able to read abut an old friend and co-worker that I haven"t seen in some time, Gary Lee Litrell, even tho he lives very close. Gary was employed as a Service Officer assisting Veter ns at the local VAMC. He advanced to Field office supervisor and became my "boss" before I retired from State of FL Dept. of Veterans Affairs. The MOH recipients are just one more reason that this country is as great as it is and I am most glad to see them getting the devotion the deserve.01/16/00 05:59:33

I am an active duty Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, and I do some research and collecting of Marine Corps history. I met Col. Mitchell Paige (ret.) a few months ago, who was granted the Medal of Honor as a Platoon Sergeant on Guadalcanal. An amazing ma . When I look at the Marines and others that came before me, it makes me realize just how big the shoes are that I have to fill, and it also makes me wonder if I can. Thank you for this website. I have greatly enjoyed the stories of these great men that have fought so bravely for our country. I come from a long line of military men on both sides of my family. One of my grandfathers served in the army during World War Two. I am a college student a Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. I am a history major. I am doing my senior project on the Congressional medal of honor, because I think people should know about the courage men that have fought for our country. My grandfather influenced me at a yo ng age to respect my counrtry and those individuals that have defend our country. Thank you. This information will help me to write this project the way I think it should be written.01/15/00 06:08:00

This is wonderful! I have been recently hired to manage a gym that is named after a MOH recipient. Everyday when I walked into my office I would have to look at the face of a man that I knew nothing about. It was haunting. Now I can take pride in know ng the great sacrifice this man made to ensure that safety of his platoon at the cost of his own life. What a learning experience that I hope to share with those that walk though the building dedicated to him. One problem though, where is SSG Gertsch bu ied?01/13/00 06:50:52
