Born:  1848 at New York, NY

Entered Service in the US Army from Jamaica, NY

Earned The Medal of Honor During the Civil War For heroism April 06, 1865 at Deatonsville (Sailor's Creek), VA

Died:  September 12, 1903 at the age of 55

Sixty Medals of Honor were awarded for actions at Deatonsville (Sailor's Creek), Virginia, during the period March 29 to April 6, 1865. Fifty-seven awards were presented for actions on April 6 alone, forty-seven of them for the capture of flags of the Confederate Army. On that day Private Frank Miller received the Medal of Honor for his capture of the battle flag of the 25th Battalion of the Virginia Infantry. Shortly thereafter Private Miller was taken prisoner, but he successfully retained the captured flag in his possession until rescued by the Union forces.

 

The SF Columbarium, a national historical site, is a repository of the ashes of the deceased formerly cremated nearby. The nearby Odd Fellows cemetery was also associated with the Columbarium at one time. It's quite likely that Miller's ashes could be therein. His grave may possibly be alternately located at Odd Fellows Cemetery - (Lone Mountain)-Geary, Turk, Parker and Arguello Streets. Origanally part of the 1854 Lone Mountain Cemetery and re-opened Nov. 19, 1865 as the Odd Fellows Cemetery. By 1923 it was all mainly moved to Greelawn Memorial Park at 1100 El Camino Real, Colma, CA 94014, San Mateo County.
