TAPS
Fading light dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky,
Gleaming bright.
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, From the hills,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
Then good night, Peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn
Shineth bright,
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, good night. |

Major Zeamer volunteered as pilot of a B-17 assigned a photographic mapping mission over the formidably defended Buka area of the Solomon Islands on June 16, 1943. Although attacked by numerous enemy fighters, Major Zeamer proceeded with his mapping run. During the attack he was wounded, his leg broken and his plane heavily damaged. Despite this he still maneuvered his aircraft so skillfully that his gunners were able to fight off the enemy for 40 minutes. Major Zeamer's crew destroyed four hostile planes and he shot down another himself. Weak from loss of blood, he refused medical aid until the enemy had broken off action. Despite lapses into unconsciousness, he directed the flight safely to a friendly base 580 miles away.
