TAPS
Fading light dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky,
Gleaming bright.
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, From the hills,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
Then good night, Peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn
Shineth bright,
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, good night. |

In a battle at
Fort Pitacus near Lake Lanao on the Philippine Island of
Mindanao, First Lieutenant George Clymer led an assault force in
action against enemy guerilla fighters. He and three men manned
a position on the parapet that came under heavy attack, killing
or wounding all three of his companions. Despite the great
danger and the loss of his soldiers, Lieutenant Shaw remained in
his position on the dangerous parapet until others of his unit
gained a foothold on the enemy position and the stronghold was
successfully captured.
