TAPS
Fading light dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky,
Gleaming bright.
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, From the hills,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
Then good night, Peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn
Shineth bright,
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, good night. |

Major Edmund
Rice was one of 63 men who was awarded the Medal of Honor for
heroism in the battle at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1 - 3,
1863. At the opening of the battle on the final day, Major
Rice's regiment was held in reserve behind the crest of Cemetery
Ridge and south of the Copse of Trees. At the climax of
Pickett's Charge, when General Armistead led his men over the
stone wall and into the Union lines, Major Rice led his regiment
into action. At the head of the regiment he lead a daring
countercharge. Though he was almost immediately wounded, Major
Rice ignored his pain and loss of blood to remain on the field
and command his men until the enemy forces had been routed.
