TAPS
Fading light dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky,
Gleaming bright.
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, From the hills,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
Then good night, Peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn
Shineth bright,
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, good night. |

Lieutenant
Colonel Henry Boynton was one of twenty men cited for personal
valor in the fighting in and around Chattanooga, Tennessee,
November 24 & 25, 1863. On November 25 in action at Missionary
Ridge where fifteen men earned Medals of Honor, Lieutenant Colonel
Boynton and his men deployed along the front and advanced a mile
against heavy enemy opposition. Upon reaching the enemy's works
Lieutenant Colonel Boynton led his mean over the fortifications,
where they caught the enemy cannoneers still loading their pieces
and killed or drove all of them away in fierce hand-to-hand
combat. In this action, while still valiantly leading his men,
Lieutenant Colonel Boynton was severely wounded.
