TAPS
Fading light dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky,
Gleaming bright.
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, From the hills,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
Then good night, Peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn
Shineth bright,
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, good night. |

Corporal Robb
earned the Medal of Honor for heroism near Montrebeau Woods,
France, during intense assaults upon enemy positions. As a tank
driver he was moving his tank into a clump of bushes to afford
protection to another tank which had become disabled. The tank
slid into a shell hole, ten feet deep, filled with water, and
was immediately submerged. Knowing that only one of the two men
in the tank could escape, Corporal Roberts said to the gunner,
"Well, only one of us can get out, and out you go,"
whereupon he pushed his companion through the back door of the
tank and was himself drowned.
