TAPS
Fading light dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky,
Gleaming bright.
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, From the hills,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
Then good night, Peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn
Shineth bright,
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, good night. |

Sergeant Henry
Holden was one of twenty-four soldiers of the 7th Cavalry to
earn the Medal of Honor during the Battle of the Little Big Horn
on June 25, 1876, often called "Custer's Last Stand."
Nineteen awards went to men for heroism in securing water for
the wounded. Sergeant Holden's Medal of Honor was one of five
awards for actions during the battle itself. As part of Company
D under Captain Benteen, he exposed himself to heavy fire to
make repeated trips to bring up needed ammunition for his
comrades. Again and again he sought his way through the storm of
Indian bullets to keep his company's line supplied.
